Order at the rug's finished dimensions, measured to the woven edge and excluding fringe. The pad is cut about an inch inside that on every side, so it disappears under the rug.

Any shape the rug is
Runners, rounds, ovals, and free-form outlines are cut to shape rather than approximated with a rectangle. Irregular shapes are handled as a custom request.

Adjust on site without tools
Edges are perforated every 2 inches. When a handmade rug measures differently than expected, pull a strip by hand instead of reaching for shears near a valuable textile.

What changes between a hand-knotted Persian, a silk rug, and a flatweave is mostly thickness and coverage. The material stays the same.
Antique and Persian rugs
Brittle foundations need even support and nothing adhesive against them. Dense felt cut to the rug's outline distributes furniture load and lifts the pile above the grit that does most abrasion damage.
Handmade and hand-knotted wool
Wool rugs are rarely true rectangles. Order at the larger measurement in each direction and bring the narrow side in with the perforations, rather than living with a visible pad edge.
Silk and fine-pile rugs
Silk shows every irregularity beneath it. A uniform, densified pad avoids the ridges and hollows that a composite or patched pad telegraphs through a fine pile.
Vintage and heirloom pieces
Pieces already carrying decades of wear are the least forgiving of an undersized pad. Full coverage, cut to the rug's real dimensions, does more for longevity than any cleaning routine.

Hardwood and engineered wood
The pad is the only thing touching a finished floor around the clock. Latex-free felt is breathable and leaves no residue on urethane, wax, or hardwax-oil finishes.
Marble, stone, and terrazzo
Polished stone gives a rug almost nothing to hold. Density does the work here — Luxe 1/4 inch adds the mass that keeps a rug from creeping, without adhesive on a sealed surface.
Tile and large-format porcelain
Slick and unforgiving about movement. A pad cut close to the rug's edge holds best, since the grip comes from full contact rather than from the perimeter.
Sealed concrete

Over low-pile carpet
