How much time do perforated rug pads save on an install?
Measuring, taping, and hand-cutting a felt pad to a rug typically runs twenty to forty-five minutes per rug, plus cleanup. A perforated pad needs seconds per adjusted side and no cleanup, so most teams recover the better part of a working hour on a multi-rug install.
What tools do I need to install the pad?
None. Unroll the pad, let it relax for a moment, pull along a perforation line if the room requires adjustment, and set the rug on top. No shears, knives, tape, or adhesive.
How long does a rug pad install take?
For a pad ordered at the correct rug size, under two minutes: unroll, position, set the rug. If a side needs adjusting, add a few seconds per perforation strip removed.
Does the pad need time to flatten before the rug goes down?
Rarely. The felt releases roll memory quickly, so most pads lie flat within minutes of unpacking. In a cold delivery truck in winter, give it a few extra minutes at room temperature.
Which side of the pad faces up?
The pad is a homogeneous felt construction, so either face can go down. Position the perforated edges where you may want to adjust, then set the rug.
Can a client install the pad without us on site?
Yes, which is often the point. A pad that requires no tools and no measuring can be shipped directly to a client or a job site and installed by whoever is there, without risking a bad cut.
Can the pad be installed over radiant floor heating?
Yes. Use the Luxe Lite 1/8 inch pad over radiant heat so the assembly stays thermally efficient. Felt is breathable and does not trap heat the way a solid synthetic pad can.
Can pads be installed in occupied or operating spaces?
Yes. Because there is no cutting, there is no felt dust, no blade, and no debris. That makes the install viable in occupied residences, operating hotels, showrooms during business hours, and secure buildings.
What if the pad edge is visible after install?
Remove one 2-inch perforation strip from the offending side. Because the pad is designed to sit about an inch inside the rug's edge, one strip usually resolves it completely.
The rug still shifts slightly. What should I check?
Confirm the pad is the correct dimension for the rug, that the floor is clean and free of polish residue, and that the pad is not undersized. A pad materially smaller than the rug lets the unsupported edge walk.
Can the removed perforation strips be reused?
They can be kept for small applications such as under a bench or a plant stand, but they are a byproduct, not a product. Most installs generate at most a strip or two.
What should be on an install-day checklist for rugs?
Confirm the floor is clean and fully cured, verify the pad matches the rug schedule, unroll the pad and let it relax, adjust with perforations if needed, set the rug, and check all four edges for pad visibility.
How long should I wait after a floor is finished before laying a rug pad?
Follow the finish manufacturer's guidance, typically two to four weeks for a site-applied urethane. Covering a finish before it fully cures can trap solvents regardless of which pad you use.
