Why standardize at all?
Because otherwise every project manager solves it differently. One buys stock and trims, another orders custom and waits two weeks. Neither cost nor schedule is predictable, and nobody can tell you why.
What are the three rules?
Short enough to put on one line of an internal wiki:
- Default: Luxe 1/4 inch
- Exception: Luxe Lite 1/8 inch for door clearance, transitions, layering, radiant heat
- Always order at the rug's finished dimensions, measured to the woven edge
What does the perforation do for a firm?
It makes the standard survive contact with reality. Junior staff will occasionally order to the wrong measurement. With a ripped-to-fit pad, that mistake costs two seconds on site instead of a reorder and a rescheduled install.
