What goes wrong with an open callout?
Somebody downstream buys the cheapest thing that satisfies the word "pad". Three years later the floor you specified has a mark on it in the shape of a backing pattern, and the schedule is what gets pulled up in the conversation.
What are the four elements?
Each one closes a substitution path:
- Material: 100% post-recycled felted fibre, latex-rubber free
- Thickness: 1/4 inch standard, 1/8 inch at door clearances and radiant heat
- Dimension: cut to the finished rug size, not a stock size
- Supplier: named, so the line cannot be value-engineered
How do you handle as-built variance in a spec?
Note that the pad is field-adjustable in 2-inch increments. That gives a contractor a sanctioned way to absorb the difference between the drawing and the room without substituting the product or raising a change order.
